Introduction

This month’s bulletin will provide a summary of the FUTURES conference and announcements for upcoming professional development opportunities.

Quotes

Congratulations once again on an excellent OAYEC conference!! I personally found the workshops I attended to be very informative and the quality of speakers were great.

The conference went well - people I spoke to sounded happy with it - our staff reported back that it was a good experience.

We wanted to let you know we had a fantastic time and stay in Collingwood. The sessions, accommodations, "extra-curricular events" were awesome and well organized!

Most of us were sitting around one night talking about all the OAYEC conferences we have been to between each of us....there have been a lot and we all agreed this was by far one of the best yet.

Workshop Evaluation Results

Based on evaluation results, overall the workshop participants were pleased with the selection of professional development variety offered. Participants really enjoyed the workshops that had a strong interactive component and appreciated the handouts. Some conference delegates felt that some of the sessions were not long enough and would have appreciated more time.

Job Developers Community of Practice

Following a lively discussion among Job Developers about forming an ongoing community of practice to raise the level of professional practice in the Job Developer community with support from OAYEC, there has been no announcement regarding the applications OAYEC has submitted to the Employment Ontario Network Development Fund at this time. We are still awaiting commitment of resources to our cause. Those who attended the workshop, and all OAYEC members, can expect follow-up as soon as more information is available.

OAYEC Videos

There are two OAYEC short films that can be viewed online. The first film was created by Cammy Productions in Collingwood and provides an overview of the successes of the FUTURES conference. The second film is a product of the National Youth Entrepreneur Social Attitude and Innovation Study. The film documents the experiences of young entrepreneurs as they build their businesses. The film was shown at lunch hour during the conference but there were some sound issues. We hope you enjoy this film this time around!
