Working in "my field"
My new job was great! The pay wasn't amazing, but it will get better if they keep me on for good. The work wasn't too boring, and some of it was fun. The people I work with were pretty great too! We got along well, and there was a bit of joking around every day. It kept the place nice and relaxed even on busy days. Other than that, it was all pretty much the usual stuff. Lot's to do, bosses' jokes to laugh at. The usual stuff.
My big story was that on my 4th day, I was working on a politician's website and caught a "mistake". The new information I was supposed to put on had some links for information about the different ethnicities that the politician was campaigning to get votes from. Well, one of the links wasn't just any old website... it was a link to a public CIA report on terrorist activities in the country of one of the ethnicities. Can you say, "lost votes"? So I showed my supervisor. And she was pretty glad.
The next day, the company's CEO freaked out (in a good way) when this was brought to his attention. He sent out a big email about what I did to the whole company, and followed it up with the emailed thanks from the politician's campaign manager. I thought it was a bit of an overreaction... but it's good to be appreciated.
Long story short: I did well, liking it, and got paid. My savings grew, and I was closer and closer to moving out from the shelter and into an apartment.
And about that last high school credit through distance learning with the ILC: I hadn't done much work but I had a full year to do it so I wasn't too worried.
